Rainforest Trust

Description

Rainforest Trust is a US-based nonprofit environmental organization that protects tropical and subtropical rainforest habitats.

It works to conserve threatened species, stop deforestation and slow climate change through strategic partnerships in Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America and the Asia-Pacific region. Its approach includes seeking official protections such as national parks, wildlife reserves and community forests, supporting Indigenous land tenure and management rights, and funding private land purchases. It also provides training and equipment to local partners for long-term environmental monitoring and stewardship.

The organization traces its founding to 1988 as World Parks Endowment, later becoming World Land Trust-US before being rebranded as Rainforest Trust in 2013. It says its projects have helped protect more than 50 million acres and conserved habitat for nearly 3,000 threatened species. It was a founding member of Protecting Our Planet, a large collective funding pledge for biodiversity announced at the COP26 climate conference in 2021.
