Whistleblower Organizations United Kingdom

Description

Protect is a UK charity that supports whistleblowers and campaigns for stronger legal protections for people who raise concerns about wrongdoing.

It runs a free and confidential advice line for workers who want to report wrongdoing, explaining their legal options and rights and helping them decide how to raise a concern safely. Advisers cannot review documents, litigate on a person’s behalf, or investigate the wrongdoing itself. The charity has supported people through this line for more than thirty years.

Protect also works with employers, offering benchmarking, consultancy, training and membership services to help organisations build speak-up systems that staff trust. These services aim to help employers spot risk earlier, handle concerns well, and protect the people who raise them.

Beyond individual cases, Protect campaigns for law reform, briefs parliamentarians and regulators, and intervenes in strategic litigation to clarify and strengthen whistleblower rights. It helped shape the UK’s Public Interest Disclosure Act 1998 and continues to push for clearer duties on employers and better accountability when concerns are ignored. Its work covers the whole of the UK.
