ExposeFacts

Description

ExposeFacts is a project for whistleblowers, journalism and democracy. It works to bring greater civic transparency to government and corporate secrecy. One of its key goals is to put whistleblowing at the center of public consciousness. It does this by widely seeking documentation of official actions that cannot withstand public scrutiny and by openly facilitating the release of such information, in order to support and strengthen journalism that is methodical, uncompromising, accurate and independent.

ExposeFacts is run by the Institute for Public Accuracy (IPA), a nonprofit dedicated to public education based in Washington, DC. IPA has worked for more than fifteen years to supply media outlets with information and analysis. It provides in-kind support, staffing and working relationships with many media organizations and independent journalists for ExposeFacts.

The Freedom of the Press Foundation has provided major assistance to IPA, donating secure-communications software, installation, training in security best practices and long-term consultation. This has allowed ExposeFacts to operate with vetted secure technology. IPA’s roster of several thousand experts, built since the late 1990s, gives ExposeFacts a wide range of knowledge in areas such as intelligence, the military, diplomacy, government surveillance, civil liberties, banking, Wall Street abuses, corporate wrongdoing and whistleblowing. It uses this knowledge to assess incoming documents and to connect journalists with relevant experts for interviews.

ExposeFacts is guided by an editorial board and a larger advisory board made up of journalists, authors, former intelligence officials and whistleblowers, including Daniel Ellsberg, William Binney, Thomas Drake and Coleen Rowley. It also runs WHISPeR, a related project. ExposeFacts is based in Oakland, California.
