Description

Pod črto, whose name means ‘The Bottom Line’, is a Slovenian independent, non-profit media outlet founded in September 2014, based in Ljubljana. It focuses on investigative reporting, data journalism and in-depth stories, believing in the power of investigative stories and the importance of public-interest journalism.

It does not charge its audience for access to its content. Instead it relies on contributions from readers, donors, foundations and other organisations that support investigative journalism.

Its investigations have covered economic development and entrepreneurship, social and environmental issues, corruption among mayors, fraud and mismanagement of European funds, illegal collection of personal data by the Slovenian police, health-system failures and poverty.

The outlet is published by the non-profit institute Zavod Pod črto. It is registered as a media entity with Slovenia’s Ministry of Culture. It has received support from the Shuttleworth Foundation, Open Society Foundations, the Civitates Independent Public-Interest Journalism Grant, Slovenia’s Ministry of Culture, the United States Embassy in Ljubljana and the European Data Journalism Network, among others.

Its team is led by founder, director and editor-in-chief Taja Topolovec. It includes journalists, data analysts, legal advisors, editors and audiovisual staff. Pod črto is a member of the Global Investigative Journalism Network.
