Description

The Plataforma por la Libertad de Información (PDLI) is a Spanish organization that defends freedom of information and expression, press freedom, and the free flow of news and opinion. Established in November 2014, it describes itself as an independent, non-partisan and plural entity, bringing together media outlets, groups of journalists and lawyers, social and academic organizations, and research groups from Spanish universities.

It works in partnership with international bodies such as the International Press Institute and the European Center for Press and Media Freedom, serving as the only Spanish reference partner on press freedom and journalist safety.

PDLI monitors and publicizes attacks on freedom of expression and information. It publishes an annual report on the state of these freedoms in Spain, along with legal monographs. It runs advocacy campaigns against draft laws that would restrict expression or information.

It organizes training seminars, workshops, conferences and debates. It develops digital tools such as mapea.cc, an application for reporting abuse or incidents against freedom of expression or information.

Its scope covers human rights and fundamental freedoms, transparency and access to information, media regulation, and protection of journalists. It also covers responsible journalism, including gender issues in the profession, digital rights and internet regulation, protection of whistleblowers and information leaks, and disinformation and fact-checking.

Its positions are based on international legal standards, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the European Convention on Human Rights. PDLI is based in Madrid.
