Para La Naturaleza

Para la Naturaleza is an organization that manages a network of protected natural areas in Puerto Rico. It offers guided tours, for a fee, and free volunteer events throughout the year across these protected areas. Drawing on scientific, community and cultural knowledge, it works to help individuals, families, communities and institutions reconnect meaningfully with Puerto Rico’s ecosystems.

The organization runs Contacto Verde, a certification program developed with Puerto Rico’s Department of Education. Through it, elementary, middle and high school students complete ten hours per semester of educational activities in direct contact with nature, led by environmental guides. The program aims to strengthen learning, build environmental awareness and foster an active, respectful relationship with the island’s ecosystems. Students present an official registration form on the day of an event, which staff certify once the activity is complete.

These learning experiences are organized at two levels, matched to participants’ age and prior experience. All are guided and developed by environmental leaders. The organization presents itself as part of a wider conservation community working to care for the islands of Puerto Rico.
