Description

The Norwegian Society for the Conservation of Nature, Naturvernforbundet, also known as Friends of the Earth Norway, is Norway’s oldest nature and environment organization.

It has around 43,000 members, 15 county branches and more than one hundred local chapters across the country, run largely by volunteers at local and national level. Its main policy areas are climate change and nature conservation, alongside coastal habitats and energy efficiency in buildings. It publishes the magazine Natur og miljo and runs an international branch working on energy saving and environmental education projects abroad.

It dates back to 1914 as the National Association for Natural Conservation, taking its current name in 1962. Its youth branch, Nature and Youth, was founded in 1967, and its children’s branch is Eco-Agents. It is affiliated with Friends of the Earth and is a member of INFORSE-Europe. Its head office is in Oslo.
