Nature Seychelles

Description

Nature Seychelles is a not-for-profit conservation organisation in Seychelles. It was founded in 1998 as BirdLife Seychelles, with support from BirdLife International and the Royal Society for Protection of Birds, and later took its current name. It is the Seychelles national partner of BirdLife International and a member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

It manages Cousin Island Special Reserve, an internationally recognised land and sea reserve on Praslin’s neighbouring island, and has led the recovery of several critically endangered bird species through habitat restoration. Its work covers coral reef restoration, sea turtle protection and whole-island ecosystem restoration, alongside climate change, education, advocacy and awareness programmes. It is active regionally through the Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association and locally through the Citizen Engagement Platform Seychelles, contributing to environmental policy and legislation.

The organisation is based at the Sanctuary at Roche Caiman on Mahe, with an additional centre on Praslin. It is led by a board, a chief executive and a director, supported by a team of scientists, an economist, educators and protected-area specialists.
