Tsavo Trust

Description

Tsavo Trust is a field-based, Kenyan not-for-profit conservation organisation working to protect wildlife in the Tsavo Conservation Area.

It was founded in 2013 by Richard Moller and Nzioki Wa Makau to protect the region’s remaining Super Tusker elephants from poaching. Its flagship Big Tusker Project identifies and monitors these elephants, and it is the only body monitoring the Hirola antelope in the area. The trust also runs aerial and ground patrols, anti-poaching and security operations, in partnership with the Kenya Wildlife Service.

Beyond wildlife protection, Tsavo Trust is developing community-led conservancies outside the Taita-Taveta Ranches to bring development benefits and expand habitat for wildlife. It is also building the Tsavo Sanctuary, a rescue and rehabilitation centre for orphaned, injured and sick small mammals native to the area. The Tsavo Conservation Area it covers spans three national parks, Tsavo East, Tsavo West and Chyulu Hills, in southern Kenya.
