Nature Forever Society

Description

Nature Forever Society is an Indian nonprofit working to conserve house sparrows and other common flora and fauna.

It was founded by Mohammed Dilawar in 2005 and formally registered in 2008. Its mission is to involve citizens of India in the conservation movement through simple initiatives with wide conservation value. It runs a Native Plant Research and Conservation Centre, established in 2016, to study native plants and develop habitats for sparrows and other local birds.

Its programs include World Sparrow Day, held every year on 20 March since 2010, and the Common Bird Monitoring of India program launched to track common bird populations. Through the Adopt Nest Box and Bird Feeder scheme it has distributed nest boxes and feeders built from recycled wood. It ran Project Save Our Sparrow with the Burhani Foundation, distributing 52,000 bird feeders worldwide.

The society successfully campaigned for the house sparrow to be declared the state bird of Delhi in 2012. It also promotes native plant conservation and biodiversity hotspot creation through partnerships with schools, companies and government bodies.
