Description

Nadácia Zastavme korupciu, the Stop Corruption Foundation, is a Slovak foundation based in Bratislava. It has worked against corruption since 2014. It was founded by entrepreneurs Miroslav Trnka and Michal Blaha.

It is funded mainly by Trnka’s support, together with tax designations and contributions from individuals and companies. It publishes annual reports on its income and spending. Its small team includes investigative journalists, a lawyer, education specialists and a coordinator for its sister organization, Komunita Zastavme korupciu, which motivates young people across Slovakia to take an interest in public affairs.

The foundation works to change laws it sees as necessary for effective anti-corruption action, cooperating with law firms on legislative proposals. It monitors how the state manages public money. Together with lawyers, it files complaints with the Public Procurement Office and the Supreme Audit Office when it finds breaches of the law in public procurement.

It supports investigative journalism, including its own investigative program running since June 2018 that follows cases of wrongdoing. It also runs education and awareness activities about corruption and its effects. It protects people who report corruption: it arranges legal assistance, represents them in court and works to prevent retaliation from their employers.

The foundation is led by director Zuzana Petková, a former investigative journalist. It is governed by a board of trustees, alongside a wider team of journalists, lawyers, communication and fundraising staff.
