Mission Wolf

Description

Mission: Wolf is a solar-powered nature center and sanctuary for unwanted captive-born wolves and wolf-dog crosses, and for horses.

It offers experiential education to teach the public about wolves and about ecology, aiming to correct the wolf’s reputation and discourage the breeding and keeping of wolves and wolf-dogs as pets. Visitors and volunteers can tour the sanctuary, help with projects, and camp on site. The sanctuary also runs an Ambassador Wolf Program, touring schools, universities and other organizations in the Rocky Mountain region.

The sanctuary only takes in wolves born in captivity, since they cannot be returned to the wild. It relies on donations of cash, supplies, and livestock or game meat to feed the wolves, and runs mostly on solar power as part of its commitment to sustainable, self-sufficient living. Much of its administrative work is carried out by volunteers.

Mission: Wolf was founded in 1988 and is located near Westcliffe, Colorado, in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
