Malaysian Nature Society

Description

Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) is Malaysia’s oldest environmental non-governmental organisation, working to protect nature across the country. It began in 1940 as the Malayan Nature Society, growing from a scientific society publishing natural history records into a nationwide conservation movement. It is a voluntary, membership-based organisation with branches across most Malaysian states.

MNS focuses on habitat protection, wildlife conservation, environmental education and community engagement. It works to secure an integrated system of protected areas in Malaysia and to build a knowledge base on key habitats and species for decision makers. Campaigns have included halting quarrying at Batu Caves and creating Endau Rompin National Park.

The society runs Kelab Pencinta Alam nature clubs in hundreds of schools and organises annual public events such as Raptor Watch and Pesta Sayap, the Festival of Wings. It manages nature parks and education centres, including Kuala Selangor Nature Park and facilities within the Forest Research Institute Malaysia. MNS also publishes periodicals such as the Malayan Nature Journal and Malaysian Naturalist, and offers CSR and ESG support to other organisations.
