Legambiente

Description

Legambiente is an Italian environmental association that has worked on environmental protection and pollution issues for 46 years. It describes itself as the most widespread and best known organization of its kind in Italy. It is structured as a national network of members organized into 18 regional committees and 472 local branches called circoli, with about 100,000 members. Its national office is in Rome, and it also has a national office in Milan tied to its foundation.

The association pursues a vision of a greener, more innovative and more just country and world, respectful of nature, animals and people. Its stated values include solidarity between people and peoples, and transparency in the management and communication of its activities. It also values independence from political parties and from any relationship of power, pursuing its mission solely in the interest of the community and the common good.

It supports the creation of new local circles. It also offers volunteering opportunities for individuals and companies, alongside membership as a way to get involved. It publishes governance documents including its statute, a code of ethics, and a policy for the protection of children and adolescents. It reports on its activities through a social balance sheet.
