Journalists for Human Rights

Journalists for Human Rights, or JHR, is an international media development organization based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Founded in 2002, JHR trains and works with local journalists, media outlets, civil society organizations and other stakeholders. Its aim is to encourage media to cover human rights stories accurately, raising awareness and helping end human rights abuses. It has run 18 programs in 29 countries, training thousands of journalists and working with more than 400 media partners and organizations.

JHR builds the capacity of journalists and local partners, develops journalism curricula with post-secondary institutions, and helps journalists form coalitions to cover shared issues. Its programs have worked in countries including the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mali, Kenya, South Sudan, Jordan, Syria, South Africa and Turkey, and in Canada through an Indigenous Reporters Program that trains Indigenous journalists.

JHR is a registered Canadian charity funded by international and Canadian agencies, governments, foundations and individual donors.
