International Tree Foundation

Description

International Tree Foundation is a charity that works with local communities to plant trees and restore forests.

It plants trees to restore forests, capture carbon, support biodiversity, improve livelihoods and farming, and improve access to food and medicine. It is a community-led organisation, meaning the people whose livelihoods depend on local forests decide which trees to plant, where and why. It operates through direct charitable activity and locally registered entities, working both as a UK charity and through a separately registered company in Kenya.

The foundation was founded in Kenya in 1922 by Richard St. Barbe Baker, originally as Men of the Trees. It was renamed the International Tree Foundation in 1992. It runs an Africa Programme and a UK Programme, and has had chapters in over 100 countries over its history.
