Description

AIDESEP, the Interethnic Association for the Development of the Peruvian Rainforest, is a national indigenous rights organization in Peru.

It speaks for the indigenous peoples of the Peruvian Amazon and works to defend and gain respect for their collective rights. It exposes the problems these communities face and puts forward alternative development proposals based on their own worldview and way of life. Members work to improve health, education, housing and organization among indigenous peoples.

The organization is led by a National Board of Directors elected every five years by nine regional member organizations spread across the north, centre and south of the Peruvian rainforest. It brings together 109 federations representing 2,439 communities, home to more than 650,000 indigenous men and women from 64 amazonian peoples. AIDESEP is a member of the Coordinator of Indigenous Organizations of the Amazon River Basin, COICA.
