Institute for Environmental Policy in Albania

Description

The Institute for Environmental Policy in Albania, known as IEP, is a non-governmental, non-profit environmental organization founded in November 2008 in Tirana. It works to enhance environmental sustainability in Albania through policy work, projects, programs, awareness raising and education. It was founded by a group of young experts responding to years of environmental degradation and negligence in the country.

IEP conducts scientific research and studies on the environment and works to develop and implement environmental policy. It raises awareness among government, the private sector, civil society and the public on issues such as climate change, renewable energy, waste and recycling, and sustainable agriculture. It also works on water management, including a pilot wetland project to reduce nutrients flowing into the Tirana River, and on Albania’s environmental path toward EU integration.

The organization cooperates with local and international experts and volunteers, and it is part of several networks, including the Ecomovement, the South East Europe Network for Energy and Transport, the EKOenergy Network, the Protect Rivers coalition and the Act4Drin Alliance. IEP operates in Albania.
