Ethecon Foundation

Description

Ethecon Foundation is a German foundation for ethics and economy that campaigns against corporate practices it sees as destructive to people and the environment.

According to the English Wikipedia article, it was founded in 2004 and is registered as a foundation under Berlin law, with its seat in Berlin. Since 2006 it has presented two annual awards: the Blue Planet Award, given to people it judges to have acted to protect the environment or human rights, and the Black Planet Award, given to companies and executives it holds responsible for environmental or social harm. It has run campaigns targeting corporations such as Monsanto, Nestle, Blackwater and TEPCO, and contributed to building a self-governing children’s hospital in Fukushima that opened in 2013.

It works mostly through volunteers, with its board and office staff serving without pay. It publishes brochures, annual reports, press statements and public declarations on topics such as war, nuclear power, trade agreements, poverty and corporate power. It is funded through donations, ethical banking and a solidarity fund rather than commercial activity. Its work has an international orientation, recognising activists and public figures from many countries.
