Honor the Earth
Description
Honor the Earth is an Indigenous-led nonprofit organization dedicated to Indigenous environmental justice and sovereignty. It works to protect the lifeways and sovereignty of Indigenous peoples around the world. It was founded in Minnesota in 1993, after its founders met with Indigenous Environmental Network, Indigenous Women’s Network and Seventh Generation Fund members.
The organization invests in Indigenous communities and a new generation of organizers through campaigns, research, training, narrative work and capacity support. It supports campaigns such as Land Back, which pushes for Indigenous peoples to reclaim sovereignty over homelands, and No Green Colonialism, which opposes environmental projects that extract resources and displace Indigenous populations. It aims to help communities resist exploitation, withstand crises and prepare future generations of leadership.
Honor the Earth envisions a future where Indigenous sovereignty is recognized and communities live in right relationship with Mother Earth. It is currently led by Executive Director Krystal Two Bulls.
