Greening Australia

Description

Greening Australia is a national not-for-profit environmental enterprise that restores landscapes and protects biodiversity across Australia.

It was established in 1982, the International Year of the Tree, in response to serious tree decline harming agriculture and the environment. It was formed by the United Nations Association of Australia and the Nursery Industry Association of Australia, and it served as the non-government arm of the national Tree Program. Today it runs large-scale restoration and conservation programs, from city suburbs to remote rural areas, using a science-led, collaborative approach.

Its work addresses climate change and biodiversity loss through projects such as Gondwana Link, Reef Aid, the Tasmania Island Ark and programs bringing nature back into cities. It works with landholders, communities, businesses, governments and Indigenous partners on restoration at scale. It also runs subsidiary for-purpose companies specialising in native seed and environmental markets, reinvesting any profit into its restoration work.
