GreenFaith

Description

GreenFaith is a global multi-faith climate and environmental movement that mobilizes religious communities to protect the planet.

It organizes local chapters, called Circles, made up of people of different faiths who work together on climate justice. The organization builds skills and shared knowledge among members, runs strategic campaigns and communication efforts, and challenges new fossil fuel and extractive projects and their financing. It also advocates for a just transition, good green jobs and loss-and-damage commitments for communities most affected by climate change.

GreenFaith encourages faith leaders to invest in green energy, divest from fossil fuels and speak out publicly for climate justice on religious grounds. It offers training programs, resources and campaigns for faith-based environmental initiatives, organizes interfaith environmental events, and facilitates dialogue between religious leaders, environmentalists and policymakers.

The organization has more than one hundred Circles across the Pacific Islands, North America, Australia, Asia, Latin America, Africa and Europe, along with religious partners in over forty countries. It was founded in 1992 in New Jersey under the name Partners for Environmental Quality, by an episcopal priest and other Christian and Jewish faith leaders, following the United Nations Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
