Govwatch

Description

Govwatch is an independent, non-profit initiative of Vouliwatch. It collects, records and reports incidents of violation or suspected violation of the rule of law in Greece, organized by theme. It aims to inform citizens and institutions, strengthen the visibility these incidents get from civil society, and press for the accountability of those responsible.

Content is published in both Greek and English, so findings also reach international bodies such as GRECO and the European Commission. Coverage is organized around themes including the legislative process and governmental oversight, corruption, order and security, and fundamental rights. Govwatch follows a code of ethics in deciding what it publishes.

Reports come from the Govwatch team, civil society, journalists, academics and ordinary citizens, and can be submitted under a person’s name through a form and evaluated before publication, or anonymously through the Globaleaks tool, which protects the identity of the person submitting a report. Govwatch also compiles assessments of the rule of law in Greece produced by Greek, European and international bodies such as GRECO, the European Commission and the OECD, alongside its own annual reports.

It is run by a small team, including a project coordinator, editors and researchers. It works with partner organizations such as The Manifold Files, Generation 2.0 and the Hellenic League for Human Rights. It relies on donations, including bank transfer, PayPal and recurring subscriptions, for its funding.
