Finnish Natural Heritage Foundation

Description

The Finnish Natural Heritage Foundation is a foundation that buys forest land in Finland to protect it permanently. It was founded in 1995 by the Finnish ecological activist Pentti Linkola, with the aim of preserving the country’s remaining old-growth forests.

The foundation raises donations from individuals and companies and uses that money to purchase forest areas judged unique enough to deserve protection. Once bought, a forest is protected both by Finnish nature protection law and by the foundation’s own ownership, giving it double protection.

Staff work on land acquisition and management across different regions of Finland, alongside campaign, communications, and finance and administration teams. The foundation also runs a gallery and shop selling nature-themed art and products, with proceeds supporting its conservation work.
