European Environmental Bureau

Description

The European Environmental Bureau is the largest network of environmental citizens’ organisations in Europe.

It has over 190 member organisations in more than 40 countries, including EU member states and some accession and neighbouring countries, representing about 30 million individual members and supporters. Its headquarters was established in Brussels in 1974. It is registered under Belgian law as an international not-for-profit association.

The EEB advocates for progressive environmental policies in the European Union and beyond, working on issues such as climate change, biodiversity, the circular economy, air, water, soil and chemical pollution, industry, energy, agriculture, product design and waste prevention. It sets agendas, monitors EU institutions, produces position papers and represents its members before the European Commission, Parliament and Council. It also engages with the Council of Europe, the OECD and United Nations processes on sustainable development.

It builds coalitions with other environmental, social and development groups, including through the Green 10, and works with networks in the Global South on environmental justice and sustainable consumption. It also helps environmental organisations in Eastern Europe use European regulations to strengthen national environmental policy, and coordinates communication and media work in support of its advocacy.
