
Europe in Law Association
Description
Europe in Law Association, known as ELA, is a human rights non-governmental organization in Armenia, founded in 2011 and based in Yerevan.
Its mission is to teach, spread and strengthen core values such as human freedom, human dignity and justice, achieved through protecting human rights, strengthening democracy and establishing rule of law. It works to spread these values among state and local self-government bodies, judicial authorities and officials, lawyers, civil society and the wider public.
ELA carries out lawmaking initiatives, research and analysis, legal counseling and support, capacity building and advocacy. It focuses on elections and referenda, judicial reform, human rights, good governance and related programs. Past activities have included election monitoring, support for judicial independence, and backing Armenia’s ratification of international human rights instruments such as the Istanbul Convention and the Rome Statute.
The organization takes part in the EU-Armenia Civil Society Platform and cooperates with the Council of Europe on judicial reform. It also campaigns against corruption in government and public institutions in Armenia.
