Asian Centre for Human Rights

Description

The Asian Centre for Human Rights, ACHR, is a non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting and protecting human rights and fundamental freedoms across Asia.

It provides accurate and timely information and complaints to national human rights institutions and United Nations bodies, and it investigates, researches, campaigns and lobbies on country situations and individual cases. It trains human rights defenders and civil society groups in national and international human rights procedures, and it feeds into international standard-setting processes on human rights. It also offers legal, political and practical advice, and works to secure economic, social and cultural rights through rights-based approaches to development.

ACHR is headquartered in New Delhi, India, and holds special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council. It pays particular attention to India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, the Philippines, Afghanistan, Bhutan, the Maldives, Pakistan and Thailand. Suhas Chakma founded the organisation.
