EuroMed Rights

Description

EuroMed Rights is a network of human rights organizations working across Europe and the Mediterranean region. It was founded in 1997, two years after the Barcelona Declaration led to the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership. The network brings together around 68 member organizations from some 30 countries, with offices in Copenhagen, Brussels and Tunisia and a presence in Morocco.

EuroMed Rights promotes and protects human rights and democracy in the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean. It works to influence the policies of the European Union and other major European actors toward the region. Its members exchange analysis, build capacity together, and monitor and document human rights violations.

The organization pursues five political goals: migration and asylum rights, gender equality, accountability and space for civil society, democracy and fundamental freedoms, and economic, social and cultural rights. It combines analysis and monitoring, collaboration and co-creation among members, and advocacy and communication aimed at decision makers and the public. It is a member-driven network governed by a General Assembly and an Executive Committee.
