Coordinadora Nacional de Derechos Humanos

Description

The Coordinadora Nacional de Derechos Humanos, CNDDHH, is a coalition of human rights organizations in Peru. It was founded in 1985 and has acted as a spokesperson for Peru’s human rights movement ever since. Its member organizations include Aprodeh, Comisedh and Ser, among others.

The coalition monitors and denounces human rights violations and pushes for judicial accountability, including in emblematic cases such as the Barrios Altos massacre carried out by the Colina death squad during Peru’s internal conflict. It has raised concerns about the irregular recruitment of minors into military service and has held direct talks with the armed forces to discuss the work of both institutions within a democratic system. Members of the CNDDHH also served on Peru’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

The organization communicates regularly with international human rights groups, foreign diplomats and the United Nations on the human rights situation in Peru. It has also responded to human rights concerns arising during recent Peruvian political protests, including those of 2020 and 2022-2023. It operates nationally in Peru.
