Description

EarthLink e.V. is a German organization working for socially and ecologically sustainable development around the world.

It supports projects run by people in the global South who want to protect their living environment and improve their own situation, covering forests, oceans and coastal areas. In Germany it runs information campaigns and public education, including work against child labour, drug-related harm and the causes of displacement. It builds cooperation and networks with other groups that share its goals for sustainable development, and works with local decision makers and businesses. It is politically and religiously independent, and funds its work through donations, grants and services provided to third parties.

According to the English Wikipedia article on the organization, EarthLink was founded in Munich in 1998, initially to continue rainforest protection projects in South America, Africa and Asia. Its early work included habitat conservation in Belize, beekeeping and environmental education with small farmers in Brazil, and an information campaign on shrimp farming’s environmental and social harm. Since 2003 it has run an ongoing campaign on child labour, alongside environmental education for children, youth, adults and decision makers, including forest camps, reforestation programmes, seminars and workshops.
