Environmental and Energy Study Institute
Description
The Environmental and Energy Study Institute is a nonprofit that provides science-based information on climate, energy and environmental policy.
It works to advance clean, affordable energy, resilient and sustainable communities, and informed decision-making on climate solutions. Its main audience is policymakers and Congressional staff, along with the wider public. Each year it produces Congressional briefings, newsletters, articles, fact sheets, issue briefs and podcast episodes, all offered free of charge.
The institute traces its origins to 1975, when a bipartisan group of members of Congress formed the Environmental Study Conference. It was established as an independent nonprofit in 1984 to continue that work after a change in Congressional rules, and it receives no Congressional funding. It is based in Washington, D.C.
EESI also runs paid internships and a scholarship program to support the next generation of climate policy professionals, and it promotes diversity and representation in the field. It is governed by a board of directors and supported by an advisory board of officials, scientists, academics and business leaders.
