Environmental Organizations United States

Description

Conservation Law Foundation is a member-supported environmental advocacy organization working across New England.

It uses law, science and the market to protect the region’s environment and build healthy, sustainable communities. Its work spans litigation, petitions, legislative and regulatory advocacy across areas such as clean energy and climate change, clean air and water, healthy oceans, environmental justice and community health. It has offices in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.

It was founded in 1966 to stop development on Mount Greylock in Massachusetts, and its advocacy since has included the cleanup of Boston Harbor and Lake Champlain, protection of marine habitat and Vermont bear habitat, and public transit campaigns. It has pushed New England states to pass binding climate laws aiming for net zero emissions by 2050. It also brought the first US legal action against ExxonMobil over climate deceit and Clean Water Act violations, and it played a role in New England states passing extended producer responsibility and lead poisoning prevention laws.
