Green Council

Description

Green Council is a non-profit, non-partisan environmental stewardship organisation and certification body in Hong Kong, founded in 2000.

It was formed by people from industry and academia who wanted Hong Kong to become a world-class green city. Its aim is to encourage industrial and commercial sectors to build environmental protection into their management and production. Its motto is that conservation begins with education.

The organisation provides education and training on sustainable procurement, environmental management, waste management and energy conservation. It runs the Hong Kong Green Label Scheme, which certifies environmentally preferable products, and the Hong Kong Green Awards and Sustainable Procurement Charter. It organises talks, seminars and public events such as the Green Carnival, the Eco-model Tournament, Hong Kong Green Day and Green Run to raise environmental awareness.

It raises public awareness of environmental needs, works to improve the environmental performance of local industries, and promotes Hong Kong’s image as a city committed to environmental protection. Funding comes from membership fees, public donations, corporate and individual sponsorships, and government funding for specific projects.
