Cittadinanzattiva

Description

Cittadinanzattiva is an Italian organisation founded in 1978 under the name Movimento Federativo Democratico. It promotes active citizenship and citizen participation in public life. Today it describes itself as an association for social promotion, Cittadinanzattiva APS. It has around 33,700 members spread across Italy’s regions and local branches.

Its work is organised into networks and areas of activity. These cover health, including a tribunal for patients’ rights and a coalition of chronic-illness associations. They also cover school policy, consumer protection, justice, European affairs, and an integrated protection project.

Alongside these networks it runs services called tutela, meaning protection or redress support for citizens. It also runs training activities, and reports, observatories and investigations into public services and institutions. It operates a civic information helpline that answers citizens’ questions and complaints.

The organisation publishes transparency documents required under Italian nonprofit law, including annual social and financial statements and its statute. It also discloses public contributions it receives. It coordinates and supports many related campaigns and projects, on themes such as sustainable mobility, digital wellbeing, healthcare access, school reform, solidarity economy, food waste, pharmacy auditing, and monitoring of public recovery-plan funds. Several of these are under an international active-citizenship network.

Cittadinanzattiva is headquartered in Rome. It also maintains an office in Brussels, Belgium, reflecting its engagement with European-level policy.
