Center for Human Rights in Iran

The Center for Human Rights in Iran, CHRI, is a human rights organization that documents and reports on human rights conditions inside Iran. It was formerly known as the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran and began in late 2007, when activists linked to a Dutch human rights foundation decided to focus specifically on Iran. It is headquartered in New York City.

Its staff of journalists, researchers and human rights advocates works with a network of independent investigators, civil society activists and human rights defenders inside Iran. This network lets CHRI report on and document real-time, on-the-ground human rights conditions there. Its writers and multimedia team turn that material into reports, briefing papers, news articles, press releases, blogs, videos and podcasts.

CHRI briefs journalists and policy makers and works to broaden public awareness of human rights issues in Iran through print and broadcast media. It advocates directly with governments and major international organizations and partners with activists worldwide. The goal is to keep the international community informed about the state of human rights in Iran, advance basic rights and freedoms, and hold the Iranian state to its international obligations.
