Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation
Description
The Borneo Orangutan Survival, BOS, Foundation is an Indonesian non-profit organisation dedicated to protecting the endangered Bornean orangutan and its habitat.
It was founded in 1991, starting as a small rehabilitation centre at Wanariset in East Kalimantan, and works together with local communities, the Indonesian government and international partners across Central and East Kalimantan.
The foundation rescues orangutans displaced by the illegal pet trade and human-wildlife conflict, rehabilitates them, and reintroduces them into protected forest areas. It also provides lifelong sanctuary care for orangutans and sun bears that cannot be released, works to conserve and restore forest ecosystems, and runs community development and education programmes for local people.
It is based in Bogor, West Java, Indonesia.
