Bioregional

Description

Bioregional is a British charity that invents and delivers practical solutions for sustainability, founded in 1994 by Sue Riddlestone and Pooran Desai.

It began by promoting closed loop recycling and reviving local production such as lavender and charcoal, and by turning waste municipal wood into biomass. Its work led to the BedZED eco-village and, with WWF, to the One Planet Living framework, which breaks large sustainability goals into practical steps. That framework remains central to its work today.

Bioregional now supports organisations with corporate sustainability consultancy, covering decarbonisation, net zero, reporting and disclosure, materials innovation and circularity, and change management. It also advises on the built environment, working with new developers, asset owners and local authorities on sustainable building and net-zero planning. Alongside this consultancy work it runs BedZED tours and publishes case studies and impact reviews of its projects.

It is based in London, with regional offices reported in China, Canada, South Africa, Kenya, Greece, Mexico and Australia. An affiliated Canadian non-profit, Bioregional North America, works on sustainable behaviour change in buildings across the United States and Canada.
