SeedChange

Description

SeedChange is a non-profit organization that supports small-scale farmers around the world to grow food sustainably.

It was founded in 1945 in Canada as the Unitarian Service Committee of Canada by Lotta Hitschmanova, and it took the name SeedChange in 2019. It works with farmers in Canada and, through local partner organizations, in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

Its mission is to build food sovereignty by enhancing biodiversity, promoting ecological food systems and countering inequity. Local partners deliver its programs because they know their own regions and farming communities best. SeedChange acts as a facilitator sharing knowledge, a funder of sustainable agriculture work, a trainer supporting seed diversity and sustainable farming, an incubator documenting successful practices, and an influencer promoting policies that protect small-scale farmers and seed diversity.

Its flagship program, Seeds of Survival, helps farmers strengthen biodiversity and food sovereignty and protect farmers’ rights.
