Description

The Ancient Forest Alliance is a Canadian charity that campaigns to protect British Columbia’s endangered old-growth forests and to support a sustainable second-growth forest industry.

Founded by Ken Wu and TJ Watt in February 2010, it grew quickly into British Columbia’s leading organization pushing for province-wide legislation to end old-growth logging. It calls on the provincial government to adopt a science-based plan for old-growth protection, ensure sustainable logging of second-growth forests, end the export of raw logs, and support First Nations land use planning and economic development as alternatives to old-growth logging.

The organization documents endangered forests and giant trees through photography and video, and educates the public through media, publications and direct outreach at events. It works with First Nations communities on conservation initiatives and land use plans, and reaches out to businesses, unions, forestry workers and scientists to broaden support for its cause. It also organizes public forums, rallies, hikes and letter-writing campaigns, and trains local activists to run their own campaigns.

The Ancient Forest Alliance is based in Victoria, British Columbia, and works throughout the province.
