Description

Allegheny Land Trust is a nonprofit land conservation organization that helps local people save local land in the Pittsburgh region.

It conserves and cares for green space for the health and well-being of current and future generations, working with staff, a board of directors and volunteers. The trust buys, protects and restores natural areas, offers recreational and educational opportunities such as hikes and workdays, and gives landowners options for conserving their own property. It also manages hunting access on select lands and accepts land and financial gifts, including through estate planning.

The trust was founded in 1993 after a county-wide survey showed strong public support for preserving the region’s natural environment. It is a nationally accredited land trust and has protected more than 4,134 acres of green space across 43 municipalities in Allegheny and Washington Counties.
