Alaska Wildlife Alliance

Description

The Alaska Wildlife Alliance is a non-profit organization that gives voice to Alaska’s wildlife and pushes for an ecosystem approach to wildlife management.

It was founded by Alaskans in 1978 and is the only statewide Alaska-founded organization dedicated solely to protecting the state’s wildlife. It works to ensure the state government manages fish, forests, wildlife and other renewable resources in perpetuity and abundance, as its constitution promises. It advocates for scientific and ethical wildlife management, sustainable populations of species such as wolves, bears, moose and caribou, and the protection of endangered species and their habitats.

The organization pursues its goals through public campaigns, policy advocacy, regulatory analysis, public comments and litigation against state and federal agencies. It has worked to curtail aerial wolf hunting and restrict predator control programs, and it supports ethical, fair-chase hunting practices. It also runs education programs, including public presentations and citizen-science partnerships, and develops climate change adaptation approaches based on ecosystem management.

It operates across Alaska, working to build a network of informed Alaskans, strategic alliances and coalitions with other conservation groups.
