CEE Bankwatch Network

Description

CEE Bankwatch Network is an environmental network that monitors publicly financed development projects in central and eastern Europe and beyond.

It has 17 member groups in 14 countries across central and eastern Europe and the Caucasus, making it one of the largest networks of environmental NGOs in the region. Its headquarters are in Prague, Czech Republic, with staff also based in Brussels and across the region. Bankwatch was set up in 1995.

The network monitors international financial institutions such as the European Investment Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, publicizing the risks of the projects they fund. It promotes environmentally, socially and economically sustainable alternatives, working on issues from coal mining and unsustainable hydropower to land rights, human rights and EU decision-making. It works with partner organisations from Africa to Central Asia.

Bankwatch also runs a policy for reporting anti-corruption and whistleblowing concerns, covering everyone connected with the network.
