Wyoming Wilderness Association

Description

Wyoming Wilderness Association is a non-profit conservation group that works to protect Wyoming’s public wildlands.

It advocates, educates and carries out stewardship to defend wild, roadless lands and support future wilderness designations. It was founded in 1979 by local wilderness advocates who worked for the passage of the 1984 Wyoming Wilderness Act, which protected 1.1 million acres. It was reincorporated in Wyoming in 1994 to continue as a voice for protecting wilderness and roadless areas.

It hosts outings to public wildlands, runs local festivals and film screenings, publishes newsletters and action alerts, and meets with elected officials and stakeholders to press its case. It works with members, volunteers and donors. It operates in Wyoming, where the wilderness system covers about three percent of the state while roughly five million acres remain unprotected.
