Workplace Fairness

Description

Workplace Fairness is an American nonprofit organization that provides public education and advocacy on workers’ rights.

It was founded in 1994 as the National Employee Rights Institute and took its current name in 2001, to link employment rights attorneys with non-legal organizations and individuals concerned with workplace fairness. It is a 501(c)(3) organization based in the United States. It works by maintaining a free, comprehensive online source of plain-language information about workers’ rights for workers, employers, and legal services and community organizations.

It also runs a directory of employment attorneys, so workers can find legal help in their area, and it publishes books on the rights of federal employees as well as the Employee Rights and Employment Policy Journal. Its blog, Today’s Workplace, posts regular updates on employee rights and fairness issues. It does not itself advise or represent individual workers, and instead directs people with personal workplace problems to a government agency or an employment lawyer.

Its stated mission rests on the idea that fair treatment of workers is sound public policy and good business practice. It works to build community awareness of workplace issues and to promote progressive change in employment law and policy.
