Whistleblowing International Network

Description

Whistleblowing International Network, established in 2018, is a global whistleblowing membership network and information hub for the whistleblower protection community. It works to strengthen the legal, technical and strategic skills of civil society organizations around the world. This helps them better support whistleblowers in the public interest.

Its members are non-profit organizations that provide free legal advice and support to whistleblowers. They share expertise and collaborate across law reform, investigative journalism, digital and human rights, climate justice and anti-corruption work in more than 25 countries.

WIN grew out of a small group of non-profits that had built up legal, policy and advocacy expertise on whistleblowing since as early as the 1980s. They wanted to share that knowledge across borders. WIN was formed to respond to the need to work together and pool specialist skills, as whistleblowing’s role in holding power to account grew in importance worldwide.

WIN itself is a network rather than a direct service provider, and it notes that it cannot give legal advice on individual cases. Anyone with a whistleblowing concern is instead directed to WIN members and associates in the relevant country. It is based in Glasgow, Scotland, and is registered there as a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation.
