Arab Forum for Environment and Development

Description

Arab Forum for Environment and Development is a regional, not-for-profit, membership-based organization working on environment and sustainable development in the Arab world.

It was proclaimed in Beirut in 2006, growing out of an initiative started in 2001 by the publisher of Al-Bia Wal-Tanmia magazine. It is headquartered in Beirut, Lebanon, and holds international organization status, endorsed by the League of Arab States and the United Nations Environment Programme. Its members include corporations, non-governmental organizations, media outlets, universities and research institutions, and government agencies as observers.

It brings together people concerned with environment and development to discuss regional and national issues, emphasizing the role of civil society and the private sector. It produces an annual State of Arab Environment report and holds an annual convention, and it runs environmental education programs, a corporate environmental responsibility initiative and the Arab Green Economy Initiative. It also supports capacity building for member organizations, awareness campaigns, school competitions and journalist training, and has produced documentaries on environmental issues.

It is funded by membership fees, contributions to its endowment, corporate sponsorship and income from its activities and services.
