Tramore Eco Group

Description

Tramore Eco Group is a voluntary environmental protection group based in Tramore, County Waterford, Ireland.

It works to protect and raise awareness of the biodiversity in and around the town, including its sea, dunes and back strand. It records local species and plans to widen this to plant life, freshwater habitats and invertebrates. It puts special emphasis on educating children, working with local schools.

The group runs weekly beach cleans and dune-planting days, and organises ecological workshops and guided wildlife talks around County Waterford. It developed Tramore Nature Park with wildlife features, bird-friendly planting and information signs, and campaigned for a bird hide there. It partnered with the Irish National Biodiversity Data Centre on pollinator corridors and with Refill Ireland on a plastic-bottle refill scheme, and worked with the local council on public recycling bins.

It is part of the Waterford Public Participation Network and Waterford Area Partnership, and it holds community fairs and events with other local groups. It ran the Banksy Project Tramore, a graffiti art competition with an ecological theme. It relies on volunteer members and welcomes new ones who want to help protect the local environment.
