Description

TRAFFIC is a global organization that works to make trade in wild species legal and sustainable.

It acts as an advisor and partner to governments, businesses, law enforcement agencies and communities to address the causes of illegal and unsustainable trade in wild species. Its work includes tracking trade in species such as elephants and rhinos, running databases such as the Elephant Trade Information System and EU-TWIX for law enforcement, and helping draft wildlife trade regulations. It has run projects on subjects including bushmeat, medicinal and aromatic plants, and community-based sustainable trade, often in partnership with organizations such as WWF and IUCN. Its goals for 2030 are to significantly reduce illegal and unsustainable trade in wild species and to increase the social, economic and environmental benefits of legal, sustainable trade.

TRAFFIC was set up in 1976. It has more than 190 staff working around the world, with offices including its global office in Cambridge, UK, and teams covering Central, Southern and East Africa, China, Europe, Southeast Asia and Viet Nam.
