The Conservancy Association

Description

The Conservancy Association is a Hong Kong non-governmental organisation working on environmental protection and heritage conservation.

It was founded in 1968, making it the first green group in Hong Kong. It advocates appropriate government policies, monitors official action, promotes environmental education and leads community participation, aiming to protect Hong Kong’s countryside and improve quality of life for current and future generations. Over the decades it has opposed developments such as a petrochemical complex on Lamma Island and a power station, and it campaigned against the demolition of the Hunghom Peninsula housing estate.

The organisation runs the Jockey Club Conservancy Association Green Corridor in Sham Shui Po, Hong Kong’s first urban forest education centre, opened in 2023 with funding from the Hong Kong Jockey Club. Through the centre it organises exhibitions, art activities, seminars and talks on tree conservation to build public understanding and encourage community action on urban forestry.
