Sida, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, is a Swedish government agency under the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. It organizes the bulk of Sweden’s official development assistance to developing countries. Its head office is in Sundbyberg, with further offices in Visby and staff posted at Swedish embassies in partner countries.

The agency is organized into nine divisions, five handling development interventions and four providing support and governance, plus an internal audit function and the director general’s staff. Much of its intervention work is delegated to Swedish missions abroad. It is led by a board with full responsibility and a director general, supported by division heads and a management group.

Sida funds and manages development cooperation across regions including Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Latin America and Europe, alongside a global division and a humanitarian division. It supports long-term research cooperation intended to strengthen research capacity in low-income countries in order to reduce poverty and build sustainable societies. It has also funded and promoted work on the rights of LGBTI people in its development cooperation, guided by the Yogyakarta Principles.
